What's the weather like in Salaparuta?

Salaparuta is located in southern Italy, in the picturesque Belìce Valley, in the province of Trapani, bordering the provinces of Palermo and Agrigento. It is a hilly area with an unspoiled landscape.

The wine production area of Salaparuta corresponds to the historic boundary of the municipality of Salaparuta, an area of 15,000 hectares, of which only 35% is occupied by vineyards. The region has an almost irregular heptagram shape, with its 'sides' defined by the municipalities of Partanna, Santa Ninfa, Gibellina, Santa Margherita di Belìce, and Contessa Entellina.

The hills of Salaparuta feature numerous pedological environments, with clay-loam soil being the predominant type. The lower areas consist of relatively light soils formed by the debris from the floods of the Belìce River. As you move upward, the soil becomes richer in minerals, as these are formed from the decomposition of limestone rocks.

Salaparuta is approximately 35 km in a straight line from the sea, making it the inland area of Selinunte, the largest archaeological site in Europe.

The characteristic of our soils

The clay-loam soils in Salaparuta.

The clay-loam soils in Salaparuta contribute a distinct mineral quality to the wines produced in the region. This unique mineral profile is influenced by the presence of key elements:

  • Calcium: Adds a sense of freshness and salinity to the wine, enhancing its crispness.
  • Magnesium: Provides a touch of smoothness and complexity, enriching the overall mouthfeel.
  • Potassium: Helps concentrate the aromas and contributes to the wine's structure, giving it balance and depth.

These clay-loam soils, rich in essential minerals, play a vital role in developing wines with complex minerality. This mineral character is what distinguishes the wines of Salaparuta, adding layers of depth and a unique expression that reflects the local terroir. The combination of these factors ensures the production of high-quality wines that capture the essence of the region's landscape.
